From Small Carnivore Conservation
For almost two decades, I have conducted research on the molecular systematics, phylogeography, and population genetics of various groups of carnivores including Mustelidae, Procyonidae, Canidae, and Hyaenidae. I am especially interested in uncovering cryptic genetic diversity and understanding how paleoenvironmental changes have shaped the phylogeography, genetic diversity, and phylogenetic structure of carnivore species and communities and using this information to inform conservation management. I apply a variety of molecular genetic techniques in my research and have recently expanded into carnivore comparative genomics. I am a member of the IUCN/SSC Otter Specialist Group.
